Over 5 people in India die every hour and every day, because of oral cancer. In India, around 77,000 new cases and 52,000 deaths are reported annually. Oral cancer mortality increased by 11.18% nationally from 1990-2021. Oral cancer burden varied significantly across states and demographic groups. Tobacco, alcohol, and smoking are well-known risk factors for oral cancer. Males consistently experienced higher rates of oral cancer compared to females. India has the highest number of oral cancer cases worldwide, accounting for one-third of the global total.
